At our school, we have set three web goals and have four individuals in the school interested in assisting with the school web site.
Our web site goals:
- To improve school to home communication
- To improve classroom to home communication
- To initiate a help desk for the technology and maintenance staff to improve communication and better organize contacts.
Our web team and their strengths:
- Mark Rease - Guidance. Excellent writer.
- Tamara Greyson - 3rd Grade Teacher. Digital Photography. Husband is a graphic designer.
- Nicholas Harold - Principal. Leadership. Head of Technology/Maintenance Staff.
- Reatha Long - Building Web Manager. Technology Training and Web Site
Based on your web site goals, your best choice of opening web apps would be:
Content Creator/Editor (Goal 1)
School Events (Goal 1 and 2)
Document Library (Goal 1)
mamboClassroom (Goal 2)
School Status (Goal 1)
School Help Desk (Goal 3)
Now let's look to our web team and see how their strengths match with the web apps we have chosen.
Mark Rease is an excellent writer. Much of his communication to parents could form the basis for the front page in a "tabbed" news area or blog.
Tamara Greyson doesn't match any of our web app choices, but she has volunteered to take digital photos that Mark can use in his articles or Reatha Long (web manager) could post on the front page.
Nicholas Harold is going to ask his secretary to learn how to transform the school documents into PDF files and post them in the Document Library. He has also volunteered to take the lead on encouraging staff use of a help desk. Nicholas at the entire urging of the team will be the FIRST faculty member to build his own web page. We all agreed that teachers will be more open to the idea if Nicholas creates one and maintains it as well.
Reatha Long has the biggest job of all to coordinate everything. She has agreed to be post photos on the front page and train the herself and the head of building maintenance on the School Help Desk. She will also recruit the librarian to possibly handle the School Events Calendar. The librarian like working with technology and assists is also on the schools PTO (Parent/Teacher Organization) Board.
The group is going to ask the Assistant Principal to learn the School Status Module. He is in charge of getting the message out that school is closed or delayed to all faculty members.
The group also agreed that during the summer all faculty members would be involved in a mamboClassroom training session to learn how to create their web page. Mr Harold will review the budget for training monies available but also promised at minimum that a technology training session would take place before school starts or during the first month of school on the annual work day.
Reatha and Tamara were excited about opening a photo gallery and would set this web app aside for now, but might open it up during the fall or winter of next year.
The group decided to adopt the above listed web apps for the site opening and will be reviewing the mamboSchools tutorials and manuals to learn about other apps before the year's end and during the summer break.
