1. Demographics

List the following information for each school. This information will appear in the Contact Us Page and accompanying module.

  1. School Name. NOTE: If you are creating the district site, list the district name.
  2. School Address
  3. Phone Number
  4. Fax Number (Optional)
  5. Contact Name. NOTE: This could be the Principal, Administrator, Headmaster, or Web Manager.
  6. Main eMail Address NOTE: This could be the Contact address or your Web Site "Catch-All" address (commonly named info@school_name)

2. Domain

List your desired domain for this school site. Here are some examples.

Example A: Your domain is http://www.avalon.k12.oh.us. Your school district has five schools: one district site, one high school/middle school and three elementary schools. Your planning document is for one of your elementary schools, West Avalon Elementary School. Your domain for this school would be:

westavalon.avalon.k12.oh.us NOTE: The subdomain "westavalon" is added to your domaiin name.

OR

wavalon.avalon.k12.in.us NOTE: The subdomain "wavalon" is added to your domain name.

The name used before your main web address is called a subdomain. You can learn about domain names and subdomains here.

Example B: You are a single school and your domain is http://westchesterprimary.org.uk. Since you have only one site name, you will retain the use of your doamin and simply transfer the name to your mamboSchools host web server. Therefore your domain will be:

www.westchesterprimary.org.uk

Example C: Your domain is http://ldusd.k12.tx.us. Your school district has fifteen schools. But, your planning document is for the main district site. Most district sites retain their original domain. As in example B, your main domain will continue to be used and transferred to your mamboSchools web server. The other fifteen schools will have names similar to Example A. For this example, a district site, your domain will be:

www.ltusd.k12.tx.us

NOTE: For other schools in the distict, simply as a subdomain (see Example A) to the existing domain name. Example: davisschool.ltusd.k12.tx.us.

If you have further questions about domain names, please contact support using the methods listed here.

3. Template and Color Choices

mamboSchools currently supports ten templates. You can view them by selecting the template links under the "Site Planning" link. You may also visit these links using the list below:

Supported Templates

mamboSchools will customize the color of any of the templates above. If you wish to have your template customized, please contact mamboSchools Support for pricing information.

4. Artwork

Your mamboSchools team will be happy to assist with the artwork within your page headers. The assistance is included within your installation and setup fee. Within the planning document, please indicate you are requesting assistance.

Please take a moment to describe your proposed design. Here is an example description for a school using the Mobius Template:

Our school would like the school logo positioned to the left and our school name, address, and phone number information to the right. We would like to use an easy-to-read font for the text. One of our business teachers suggested the Arial font, but we will leave it to your design team to make the final selection.

Please attach the logo, photos, or other artwork to an eMail. Place in the SUBJECT line: Artwork for and send to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

5. Opening Web Apps

Part One: This is a difficult decision to be making so early in your planning process. But it is helpful to begin considering the web applications (components) you will be using when your site first opens. Your mamboSchools Support Team will assist you in setting up your initial web apps and even do our best to help you add your initial content.

It is our recommendation, based on working with many schools, that you limit the number of web applications you will use in the beginning. Please remember that all web apps are available to you at all times! However, you can limit the apps shown on each site. By selecting your opening web apps, you are simply determining with ones are active to your public and school users. Web Apps are never deleted. Instead, these apps are simply not activated.

Visit this link for a list of current Web Apps (components). Print a copy.

Part Two: The number of opening apps your choose will depend on two items:

  • Your School or District Web Site Goals
  • Your Web Team
By reviewing your goals, you can better select those web applications which meet your needs.

Schools may develop a web team - a group of individuals who collectively can update information throughout the web site. Your web team should match their skills and/or strengths with this short list of selected web applications (component). Each team member will eventually manage a web app and receive a special ID and Password allowing them access to the admin area of your site.

By focusing on your goals and the strengths of your web team, you can select those web applications that will be active when your site opens.

Click to review an sample school's goal statements and their web team. Learn how the goals and people combine to make choices about your opening web applications (components).
